This list of events is based on a collection of old British newspaper articles that starts in 1900.
August 1903 A mob in Bessarabia, Russia (now in Moldova & Ukraine) rapes & murders Jews, burning their property for two days while police watch.
That month the Zionist Congress debates the offer of the British to create a homeland for the Jews in Uganda (Africa). They consider it because their efforts to persuade the Turks to allow immigration into Palestine had been rejected.
Nov 1905, 1,000 Jews killed in pogrom in Odessa (Now in Ukraine). 5,000 injured and 6,000 homeless. The pogrom started after the circulation of leaflets “Death to Jews.” The mob grew to 50,000 howling to kill, but they were organised with lists of those to be killed & the mob included police, army & government officials.
1906 Another, possibly official pogrom, this time smaller only 100 killed.
The first mention of Palestine is in August 1910
“Druze massacre 100 Jews” This is when Palestine was part of the Ottoman empire. There were no Jewish immigrants. The idea that everyone lived in harmony before the Zionists appears to be untrue.
The next headline is in May 1917 when the Ottomans still held the area
“Muslims attack Jews who are terrified across the territory”
Later in that year, 1917, Britain began moving troops up the coast from Egypt fighting the Turks. They entered Gaza. Around that time they made an offer to the Zionists to let them have a homeland in Palestine (assuming that the British took Palestine, which they did in the following months, taking Jaffa in September of the next year.) This offer was to gain support from Jews in the fight against the Turks.
It did not take long for violence to break out again between Muslims and Jews. The British imposed martial law in April 1920 due to the violence. Arabs then attacked the British.
In 1920 the League of Nations began the process of granting Britain a mandate to administer the place and prepare it for independence. This mandate became formal in September 1923.
Martial law was imposed again in 1929 after 57 deaths. Troops had intervened to stop a massacre.
In 1929 Muslims attacked Jews in Hebron and attacked Brits in Gaza.
Relations worsened. Various attacks, counter attacks, everyone attacking each other, the RAF strafing mobs.
The Brits tried to stop the flood of Jewish immigrants, failed, but did manage to turn the Jews against them. This led to terrorism against the Brits, mainly from Jews, but the Arabs did their share of killing too. Bombs for buses and trains. Jews massacred an Arab village in 1948, the year of the declaration of a new independent nation, which led to the neighbouring Arab countries attacking and losing.
In 1949 Israel joined the United Nations.
In 1958 a policeman was jailed for killing 48 Arabs
In 1964 the Palestine Liberation Organisation was founded to destroy Israel.
Lots of other things happened, but the above is an idea of how the violence far predates the Zionists or even the British. Everyone was violent.
